SEM03. G A M M A. PROJECT#03 P R O J E C T :: My House Is A Spaceship
Showreel of this sem's project
This is my final assignment for my GAMMA year. It was a whole new experience for me than my other experiences in the pass semesters. Overall, I'm really glad I did managed to pass my Film and Animation course this semester.
For this project, we had to shot a short movie based on one of the given themes :
+ solo experience
+ polar opposites
+ under the surface
My project was based on the under the surface theme. Below are the project details :
Below is the original shot of the short movie.
Original shot
This are the models turnaround for this project. I really love the modelling parts of every project that I have involved so far!
Models Development
I was going for the Star Trek Voyager's concept designed, but clearly mine turns out to be something else. Here is the animation parts of the movie along with the render passes.
Animation and Render Passes
Finally! Here's the final product; presenting My House Is A freakin Spaceship!
Aaaahhh...I hate the audio processing part. I used Sony Sound Forge for the audio processing and it was completely fine until I imported it into AE.
This semester was such a hassle completing this project. My AE kept crashing and MAYA kept on lagging, I felt like I had been cursed with ill fated! Anyway, here's the complete movie.
Final movie
I noticed my lame sound efx attempt. It was so poor. I'm so embarrassed... When I had the time, I will going to re-do it for sure!
These are the sketches I did back when I was in first sem of BETA and back when I had all the time in the world! I still doodling whenever I can though. But most of them are on my study notes. :D
Kouchi Neko
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.”-Helen Keller
Kouchi neko. I love to draw this free spirited cat every time I got myself a new sketch book. This picture always ended up on the first page of my sketch books. Sometimes, it even ended up on random page of my note books.
Mushroom Lover
I drew this based on a picture I saw on one of my friend's desktop. I was attracted to it the moment I laid my eyes on it. Unable to get a copy of the image, I decided to draw it from my memory. I'm sure it didn't look as good as the original since I'm not really good withcrayon.
Dream of Doll
This was from my first assignment in theSketch Attackclass, another segment of the Film and Animation class. The task was to complete sketch based on a picture less than 10 minutes and this was the result.
This was where I stumbled upon the original picture :
Ughhh. Not exactly how I intended it to be. One thing for sure though, I needed more intensive practices.
Naruto
Another sketch I did based on a Naruto cosplayer. It sure didn't look like how I imagine it would be.
L, Death Note
This is the character from the manga turns anime, L from Death Note. But this one was drawn based on a cosplayer cosplaying as L. I experimented with my style a bit in this sketch.
Murasaki
Another doodling I did while waiting for the lecturer to come to the class. Murasaki, or purple in Japanese is and has always been my favorite color. This one was drawn based on a picture I saw in one of Kaoru's comic. Kaoru is one of the best Malaysian comic artists. My drawing style was so much influenced by her. But I hope one day I may find my own drawing style.
Last Friends
I sketched this based on a picture I saw while watching Japanese drama, Last Friends. I didn't include the red ribbons though.
Last Friends original picture
It was really a nice drama. Too bad, the guy had to die though...he was just a little twisted inside. But overall, he was a nice guy deep down inside.
Getsurenka
This was another picture I drew based on Kaoru's characters. These two has always been my favorite. A cupid who fell in love with a death angel. This one was done sloppily using ball pen and a marker pen.
Joe Cheng
Another experiment I did. I drew this for one of my best friend who is a die hard fan of him.
Me, in the car
Assignment 2 for the Sketch Attack class. We had to draw our own face. So, this is me. This is how I looked like.
Fruity Sky
A water color painting I did during semester break. It was really fun because I did this together with my little sister who had to complete a painting for her homework; while I was just playing around with her spare sketch paper.
Guarding You
Another doodling based on Kaoru's character. I sketched this while I was fighting to stay awake in the afternoon class. It was a fierce battle but I won eventually! :D
Yukata Night
These two picture was drawn based on the same picture my friend took at an even called Yukata Night at our university. The second top one was drawn with my usual sketch style while the bottom was the manga version. We really had fun that night wearing yukata and pretending to be Japanese. :D
Ouran Highschool Host Club, Haruhi and Kyouya
This was the sketch I did based on Ouran Highschool Host Club's cosplay. The cosplayer was really good in portraying their character.
Soul Exorcist
Soul Exorcist is a character from the manga D. Grayman. It is my all time favorite manga. I drew this while waiting for my sister to finish her cheer-leading practice. I tried drawing this using different style rather than my 'copying-Kaoru's-style.
07 Ghost
Finally some chibis! I have been meaning to draw chibi character for quite sometime and when I saw this two pictures while reading the 07 Ghost manga, I just couldn't resist myself. So here they are, the characters from 07 Ghost, both the antagonist and the protagonist.
Me, and the other two
This was done during the Sketch Attack class. It was done based on the picture of me, my sister and my brother.
Reading in woods
This was another painting I did while my sister had to complete her art homework. While she was painting hers, I made this, another water color painting. It's a picture of a girl reading a book to her cats while her two cats listening to her. What's with the cat? Well, while I was painting this, my two cats were watching me intently.
Me, and my best buddies
This is the first doodle i did using my brand new wacom; a gift from dad. Felt a bit awkward with the settings but heck, the pen tool was awesome! I'm loving it already! XD
Mr. Dark Ink
Testing a different style of strokes. I was supposed to work on my thesis, but I did THIS instead. My eyes needed a break from reading all those texts! >.<'
A fury fan of Harry Potter
Finally! Went to watched Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallow Part II. It was freakin' awesome!!! XD Can't believe it has ended after so many years...but then again, there's Pottermore! And I'm addicted to it!
Jasmine
A quick 30min sketch I did for my lovely, pet big sister. A gift for her belated birthday. :D Not quite nailed it since she's way waaaay prettier than this!
Have a cup of tea during rainy day
Ahhh...a cup of tea while enjoying the rainy day. I love rain! I especially love the sky after the rain and the smell that lingers. Tea anyone? :)
Ehem. Not porn okay. Haha!
Saw a model with this sensual pose. Can't resist myself from drawing my version. Hehe.
Red Fan
I've been doing lots and lots of research on Chinese opera for my upcoming project. Now every time I close my eyes, I will see the hauntingly beautiful head piece. Am I haunted? No, no, no, I just need to doodle it out! Hahaha!
This assignment requires us to an 8 seconds shot and later create an animated 3d environment, integrated in the shot. The theme was based on a Manufacturing Factory. Our lecturer’s piece of advice was, “Make it as look as busy as you can!”
Anyway, my kind of ‘factory’ will be a factory where robots are being made.
I took my shot at the assembly hall of my sister’s school. It’s rather colorful for a high school, don’t you think? :D
RoboFactory Original Shot
After the shot was taken, its time to track the scene.
Tracking Shot
The tracking was done in Maya Live as taught by our lecturer. Someone mentioned to me that the best tracking software is Mocha. I'm gonna try that one soon enough. After tracking was done, comes the modelling part. Below are the models I had in my shot.
Models Turnaround
The robot was not included in the model turnaround as I completed this video just before I was admitted into the hospital for the whole week; and I modeled the robot while I was stuck to my hospital bed and needle in my vein.
Scene Playblast
The robot was re-modeled based on the original robot model i found online. Since we were strictly forbidden to take ready-made model, we have to model everything from scratch. This robot was my first organic model ever!
Finally, after all the hardships, here's the final. I really wanted to re-render this scene again since I did this while I was still sick. "No rest for the wicked!", they said, but more like "No rest for the sicked" in this kind of situation.
Final Product
Wish I can re-render this again since I did this while I was still sick. This was just for the sake of submitting it on time. Right after I submitted this project, straight back to the hospital bed I went. *sigh* those were the days...
SEM03. B E T A. PROJECT#02 P R O J E C T :: Green Screen Composition
This sem was another short semester. Therefore, we only have to do 2 assignments and this was our final assignment for our final semester in BETA year. This time, we were required to shot a clip on the green screen and add animation elements in it.
The concept idea for this assignment was a combination of a fairy tale character, Little Red Riding Hood and Super Mario game land. I have always loved fairy theme but I loved it more if I can add a little twist to it.
Thus, meet my main character of this assignment, an all grown up Red Riding Hood warrior who kills HIS enemy (the evil short mushroom) with his silver gun. Both talents (Mr. Red and Mr. Big Bad Wolf) are my course mates. We worked for each other's assignment. He was my talent, and I was his.
Credits to my fellow talents for making this assignment a success :
Super *Rotkapchen (Red Riding Hood in German) - Mr. Muhsin (Moose)
The Big Bad Wolf - Mr. Faiz
This semester has given me a whole new valuable experiences working on green screen set, and also working with AE. I am definitely looking forward for another assignment like this.
SEM03. B E T A. PROJECT#01 P R O J E C T :: Rotoscoping
This was the first assignment we had to do on our first class of 3rd sem of BETA year. We were given a short clip of a guy walking, entering the scene from left, walking in front of a wooden ladder and stops in the middle momentarily, before exiting the scene on the right. It was a green screen shot taken by our very own lecturer.
Our task was to clean the shot, edit the background with a still image using AE. Sounded easy enough? Haha! Holy goose it wasn't! This assignment turns out to be one of the most patience-nerves wrecking-challenging ever! Why? Below are the list of all the 'whys' :
i. The talent (or the guy) in the shot, he was wearing a brown colored shirt.
ii. The guy's skin was almost as brown as his shirt.
iii. The wooden ladder that was in the shot, was made from wood. (brown)
iv. The clip of the shot that we had to work with was compressed and low quality.
Even though we were using AE CS4 where it should help in cleaning green screen shot as easily as editing it, but in this case, we had no other choice than to rotoscoped it frame by frame. I guess that was the whole point of this assignment; to rotoscope aside from learning to control one's patience that is! :D
Owh ya. My pc completely broke down right after this semester. Therefore, I could not salvage whatever works in the hardisks; including the original green screen shot. But, the good side of this unfortunate event was, I got myself a brand new pc and a flat screen complete with magic angle! So thanks god and thanks daddy!
SEM02. B E T A. PROJECT#02 P R O J E C T :: Motion Graphic
This was my final project for this semester. Since it was a short semester, there was not many project we could do.
Anyhow, this time around we were assigned to design a mg based on cultural or traditional celebration theme. Therefore, I decided to do a mg on Tanabata, a traditional festival celebrated in Japan. However, my focus was solely on the story behind Tanabata.
Images used was taken from random sites. They did not belongs to me. Each belongs to their respective owner.
Below are some sketches of the character development for this assignment:
Jyuzo statue and Kengyu
Celestial magpie, sakura petals and bamboo tree
Orihime
These are some of the thumbnails sketches for the mg:
Last but not least, the concept board and the pitch board:
This project was really fun to work with despite the unforeseeable disaster. There was a lot of mistakes, but thats what happened when one had to re-do everything just in time before the presentation.
This was the first time I worked long hours with After Effects. I hoped I can improves myself better in the future!
