RoboFactory

SEM02. G A M M A. PROJECT#01
P R O J E C T :: RoboFactory

This assignment requires us to an 8 seconds shot and later create an animated 3d environment, integrated in the shot. The theme was based on a Manufacturing Factory. Our lecturer’s piece of advice was, “Make it as look as busy as you can!”

Anyway, my kind of ‘factory’ will be a factory where robots are being made.
I took my shot at the assembly hall of my sister’s school. It’s rather colorful for a high school, don’t you think? :D

RoboFactory Original Shot

After the shot was taken, its time to track the scene.

Tracking Shot

The tracking was done in Maya Live as taught by our lecturer. Someone mentioned to me that the best tracking software is Mocha. I'm gonna try that one soon enough. After tracking was done, comes the modelling part. Below are the models I had in my shot.

Models Turnaround

The robot was not included in the model turnaround as I completed this video just before I was admitted into the hospital for the whole week; and I modeled the robot while I was stuck to my hospital bed and needle in my vein.

Scene Playblast

The robot was re-modeled based on the original robot model i found online. Since we were strictly forbidden to take ready-made model, we have to model everything from scratch. This robot was my first organic model ever!

Finally, after all the hardships, here's the final. I really wanted to re-render this scene again since I did this while I was still sick. "No rest for the wicked!", they said, but more like "No rest for the sicked" in this kind of situation.

Final Product

Wish I can re-render this again since I did this while I was still sick. This was just for the sake of submitting it on time. Right after I submitted this project, straight back to the hospital bed I went. *sigh* those were the days...

Green Screen Composition

SEM03. B E T A. PROJECT#02
P R O J E C T :: Green Screen Composition

This sem was another short semester. Therefore, we only have to do 2 assignments and this was our final assignment for our final semester in BETA year. This time, we were required to shot a clip on the green screen and add animation elements in it.

The concept idea for this assignment was a combination of a fairy tale character, Little Red Riding Hood and Super Mario game land. I have always loved fairy theme but I loved it more if I can add a little twist to it.

Thus, meet my main character of this assignment, an all grown up Red Riding Hood warrior who kills HIS enemy (the evil short mushroom) with his silver gun. Both talents (Mr. Red and Mr. Big Bad Wolf) are my course mates. We worked for each other's assignment. He was my talent, and I was his.

Credits to my fellow talents for making this assignment a success :
Super *Rotkapchen (Red Riding Hood in German) - Mr. Muhsin (Moose)
The Big Bad Wolf - Mr. Faiz

This semester has given me a whole new valuable experiences working on green screen set, and also working with AE. I am definitely looking forward for another assignment like this.

Rotoscoping

SEM03. B E T A. PROJECT#01
P R O J E C T :: Rotoscoping

This was the first assignment we had to do on our first class of 3rd sem of BETA year. We were given a short clip of a guy walking, entering the scene from left, walking in front of a wooden ladder and stops in the middle momentarily, before exiting the scene on the right. It was a green screen shot taken by our very own lecturer.

Our task was to clean the shot, edit the background with a still image using AE. Sounded easy enough? Haha! Holy goose it wasn't!
This assignment turns out to be one of the most patience-nerves wrecking-challenging ever! Why? Below are the list of all the 'whys' :
  i. The talent (or the guy) in the shot, he was wearing a brown colored shirt.
  ii. The guy's skin was almost as brown as his shirt.
  iii. The wooden ladder that was in the shot, was made from wood. (brown)
  iv. The clip of the shot that we had to work with was compressed and low quality.

Even though we were using AE CS4 where it should help in cleaning green screen shot as easily as editing it, but in this case, we had no other choice than to rotoscoped it frame by frame. I guess that was the whole point of this assignment; to rotoscope aside from learning to control one's patience that is! :D

Owh ya. My pc completely broke down right after this semester. Therefore, I could not salvage whatever works in the hardisks; including the original green screen shot. But, the good side of this unfortunate event was, I got myself a brand new pc and a flat screen complete with magic angle! So thanks god and thanks daddy!

Motion Graphic

SEM02. B E T A. PROJECT#02
P R O J E C T :: Motion Graphic

This was my final project for this semester. Since it was a short semester, there was not many project we could do.

Anyhow, this time around we were assigned to design a mg based on cultural or traditional celebration theme. Therefore, I decided to do a mg on Tanabata, a traditional festival celebrated in Japan. However, my focus was solely on the story behind Tanabata.

Images used was taken from random sites. They did not belongs to me. Each belongs to their respective owner.

Below are some sketches of the character development for this assignment:
Jyuzo statue and Kengyu

Celestial magpie, sakura petals and bamboo tree

Orihime

These are some of the thumbnails sketches for the mg:

Last but not least, the concept board and the pitch board:

This project was really fun to work with despite the unforeseeable disaster. There was a lot of mistakes, but thats what happened when one had to re-do everything just in time before the presentation.

This was the first time I worked long hours with After Effects. I hoped I can improves myself better in the future!

Typography And Transition

SEM02. B E T A. PROJECT#01
P R O J E C T :: Typography And Transition

My first attempt ever at typography mg. Gosh! It's not as good as I hoped it would be. Heck! I'm just gonna have to do a better job next time!

Now this was my first assignment in the 2nd sem of BETA year.

It's a typo mg based on Tropic Thunder dialogue. We were allowed maximum of three types of transition other than the basics such as fade in/ out, ease in/ out.
No 3D stuff was allowed either.

I think, I'm beginning to fall in love with After Effects!

Mix Media Animation

SEM01. B E T A. PROJECT#03
P R O J E C T :: Mix Media Animation

Mix Media animation was my final assignment in the Film & Animation class. It was a mini animation presentation done by mixing 2 types of media; which are stop motion and digital media.

This was also a character design assignment where we had to design a character and create a mix-media mini animation based on that character.

Meet Wampaku Bear Yaya. Click on the image to get better view.

Wampaku Bear Yaya

Coloured Version

After all the designs are done, I printed out all the characters, took pictures of them, scan, clean them up in Photoshop and edit them in Flash. Owh, the background images was fully done in Illustrator.

I had to admit, it was fun doing this assignment as it was my first attempt at stop motion animation.  However, the final product was not as good as I had hoped it would be. If I'm to be given a chance at this again, I would be happily spend nights and days doing it.

Sack Of Flour

SEM01. B E T A. PROJECT#02
P R O J E C T :: Sack Of Flour

Sack of Flour animation was also done using the traditional animation method.

This was my second assignment in the Film & Animation class. This time, we had to hand drawn a total of 120 pages of a flour sack; complete with it's unique characteristic and behavior.

Sack of Flour character sketches

Therefore, I designed my flour sack based on rodent characteristic. More precise, i drew it based on my Roborovski, named Mr. Kelpy. He's a cute fellow who's suspicious of everything.

Mr. Kelpy

Back in that time, I think my drawing hand actually did grew muscles from drawing those 120 pages.

The Bouncing Ball

SEM01. B E T A. PROJECT#01
P R O J E C T :: The Bouncing Ball

The Bouncing Ball animation was done using the traditional animation method, which also known as 'hand-drawn animation'.

This was my first assignment in the Film & Animation class. We had to hand drawn a total of 120 pages of a bouncing ball animation.

To tell the truth, that was the first time ever I abused my drawing hand so severely that it refused to pick up any pen or pencil afterwards.

Yup. I believes now my right hand has a mind on its own. *0*
